When formatting a removable drive, small files are almost always present as traces of deleted files. To avoid this you have to do what is known as secure deletion with a tool like Disk Wipe.

It offers you a total of seven different algorithms with which it is capable of formatting any memory card, flash drive or external hard drive without leaving any trace.

Due to its powerful file deletion system, it requires double confirmation before starting the formatting process, in addition to choosing the file system beforehand.
